Get ready for a week dominated by Apple. 1. iPhones incoming There's only one more day to go before we know what the latest iPhone is like in full, official detail – but we have a lot of info already thanks to the latest leak, official firmware which was leaked over the weekend. Here's what that contains, which includes names (iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X) and unique features like Animoji, animated 3D emoji which use your actual facial expressions to convey actual emotion. 2. New Apple TV, too The same leak revealed details about a new Apple TV, which will have 4K capability and a much improved processor. This is basically matching table stakes with other set-top boxes, but Apple could still have some content tricks up its sleeve. 3. And a new Apple Watch Apple Watch with LTE? Sounds like it's finally happening, after being rumored last year. The same leak again provides essentially confirmation that it's coming. A Watch that lets you truly leave your phone behind could be a big step up for Apple's wearable plans. 4. China intends to ban sales of fossil fuel cars China eventually wants to end the sale of fossil fuel-powered vehicles entirely. The company announced its intent over the weekend, but it's still working on the timeframe. Regardless, it's making big waves in the auto industry, and will continue to do so. Get ready for everyone to go electric. 5. Mercedes-Benz commits to electrification Speaking of, Mercedes-Benz wasted no time announcing its intent to offer electric and hybrid versions of all of its vehicles by 2022. The automaker is the latest to embrace electrified drivetrains, but it won't be the last. 6. Facebook fined for privacy violations in Spain Facebook has been fined around $1.4 million U.S. for violating user privacy with its data collection practices. It's not a lot for a company like Facebook, and Facebook's appealing the decision. 7. Xiaomi's Mi Mix 2 looks like a real contender Smartphones are all about minimizing that bezel now, and the latest to do a nice job with that is Xiaomi, which has managed to go nearly bezel-less. It's also a fully ceramic phone body, which is super cool. |
