Tesla misses on Model 3 production, Snapchat puts the AR in art and Uber's due diligence seems questionably diligent. All that and more in The Daily Crunch for October 3, 2017. 1. Tesla only made 260 Model 3s last quarter Tesla had suggested it could make as many as 1,500 Model 3 vehicles in Q3, 2017 – but instead it made only 260, vastly undercutting its target. The shortfall wasn't due to any fundamental problems, however, Tesla said. Fundamental problems or no, Tesla has to rectify this production bottleneck and get Model 3 vehicles out if it wants to reassure investors: The stock took a hit already this morning. 2. Snapchat launching AR art installations Snapchat wants to make ARt a thing (get it?) and it's enlisting that balloon animal artist to help make it happen. More power to you Snapchat – I doubt this is going to be much of a thing, but more power to you. 3. Uber's Otto due diligence report is pretty damning The due diligence report Uber conducted before acquiring Otto is now available, and it doesn't look great for Uber or Otto founder Anthony Levandowski. The documents basically highlight that Uber was focused on whether confidential materials were taken from Google. The document reveals that some information was taken, though not where it ended up. 4. Ajit Pai confirmed as FCC Chairman Ajit Pai is no longer acting FCC Chairman – he's now Chairman proper after a Senate confirmation. Bad news for net neutrality advocates, but not unexpected. 5. Former 500 Startups partners form new fund The 500 Startups fiasco around founder Dave McClure continues to have fallout, but this might be the good kind: Former partners have founded a new fund called Hustle Fund, with the goal of opening up investment to non-traditional companies. 6. Oakland Athletics allowing iPhone tap to enter for stadium access NFC-based access to MLB games? It's a thing, thanks to a new pilot with the Oakland Athletics using the iPhone's new NFC capabilities. Smart, and I hope it catches on elsewhere. 7. This might be Tesla's new electric semi truck Tesla's all-electric semi truck is bound to be big news when it gets officially unveiled later this year, but you can take a look at what is most likely the truck itself now thanks to a spy shot. Looks very future. |
