What to expect from Google's Pixel event. It's The Daily Crunch.

THE DAILY CRUNCH
MONDAY, OCTOBER 2 2017 By Darrell Etherington

The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL could be some of the best smartphones released this year – and they're launching Wednesday. Here's what you can expect from that event, plus much more in The Daily Crunch for October 2, 2017.

1. What to expect from Google's Pixel 2 launch

Google is hosting a big launch event on October 4, and there's going to be a lot of new stuff revealed there. First and foremost, we expect Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, sequels to Google's in-house designed smartphones.

There's also likely going to be updated Google Home hardware, as Google continues its Assistant everywhere push. And a new high-end Pixel-line Chromebook, which could be the most interesting, if most niche, product announced. Join us live at 9 AM PT on the 4th for all the news.

2. Uber loses Norther European GM after London setback

Uber has lost its GM for Northern Europe, Jo Bertram, just following the company's loss of its license in London. There's no official reason, but Bertram implied she was in process of leaving already – though it could be a peace offering to London's transport agency as Uber seeks to mend bridges.

3. Facebook to share 3,000 Russian-bought election ads

Facebook is finally going to share the ads that a Russian entity purchased to use its platform to meddle in the last U.S. presidential election. These will shed light on exactly what kind of content was being used to manipulate FB's user base.

4. SEC smacks down two U.S. ICOs

The ICO gravy train may be ending in the U.S., shortly after the new funding instruments were banned outright in South Korea and China. The SEC has sampled down on two such offerings, and this is likely only the start.

5. Ring undercuts Nest with new whole home security system

Ring says that its $199 Protect home security system will beat any other in terms of value, and it looks like they're probably right since service including 24/7 professional monitoring and unlimited cloud recording is only $10 per month.

6. Roku reveals new streaming media players and OS

It's hardware season, and that means new hardware! Like this new lineup from Roku, including all-new streaming media players across the lineup, a new universal remote and a new operating system.

7. Instagram expands stoppable posts to Bigcommerce

One day, all of Instagram will be shoppable. And then it will be truly ruined. Can't wait!
